Journalist Sets Himself Ablaze To Protest Poverty In Tunisia
For drastic change to happen
anywhere, people must stand up to take a stand. One man who is in earnest
desire to see a change come to the poor people of Tunisia, has taken a strange step to set the ball in motion.
The man called Abdel Razaq
Zorgi set himself ablaze to protest the harsh living conditions of the Tunisian
populace.
Before his death, the 32-year-old
journalist had released a video the night before where he disclosed his intentions.
He said, “For the sons of Kasserine who have no means of subsistence, today I
start a revolution. I am going to set myself on fire.”
The gruesome death of the
journalist sparked protests in the city after dark and clashes overnight with
police who fired tear gas at dozens of people who had set tyres ablaze and
blocked the main street.
In the fracas that ensued, a
lot of security operatives were injured while a lot of protesters were
detained. A brief calm was attained after that, but the protesters were back on
the streets of Kasserine in the afternoon after Zorgi’s funeral.
